Relationships between religiosity/spirituality and quality of life:
an integrative literature review
Abstract
Studies indicate that religiosity (R) and spirituality (S) have an important role in helping the perception of quality of life (QoL). An integrative literature review was developed, aiming to observe possible relations between R/E and QL from randomized and controlled studies. Data collection took place in May 2021, in SciELO, LILACS, and PubMed databases. After being submitted to thematic analysis, four categories emerged: 1) Relations between R/E and QL in patients with chronic diseases and elderly individuals; 2) Spiritual/Existential or Religious Well-Being and QL; 3) The Spiritual Religious Coping (SRB) phenomenon in the health-illness process; 4) Interventions linked to the spiritual/existential sphere. The results indicate that there are positive correlations between the dimensions of each construct of QL and R/E, and that R/E helps the individual in several aversive contexts
