A dialogue between Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Neuropsychology: Case report
Abstract
This article presents the results of a case seen at the School Service of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, the result of a joint work between the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Neuropsychology teams. It is an adolescent institutionally sheltered, HIV positive, black, in the process of literacy, victim of neglect and psychological violence. From the results, it was possible to observe the total lack of knowledge about their life history and health status; difficulties in naming and recognizing emotions; impairment in psychosocial functioning; and core beliefs of worthlessness and helplessness. Still, it was observed that their intellectual skills were predominantly low, especially the skills of temporal-spatial orientation, attention, memory, arithmetic skills, language, praxis and executive functions. From this, it discusses about the clinical challenges for the development of psychodiagnostics in this case and about the resources that were used to work together between the teams.
