Bilingualism and executive functions: a review on the Brazilian publications between 2003-2016

Abstract

The impact of bilingualism on cognitive functions has been constantly evidenced in international researches. In Brazil, although the country is recognized for its cultural plurality, the field of neuropsychology of bilingualism is still incipient. This study sought to provide an overview of national papers on bilingualism and executive functions, published in journals in Portuguese and English. 10 studies were found that met the established criteria. It was found that Brazilian publications are scarce, and it differs from international research in terms of tasks used in studies and in the inconsistency of multiple factors such as differences in different socioeconomic reality, schooling.
