Scars from school: how the LGBTphobia affects the life of students

Abstract

School violence affects up to 70 people, decreasing significantly the studying success. Concerning the LGBT populations, the rates might reach higher levels. Thereby, the main aim of the paper is to describe the violence against the LGBT community, places, agents, effects and measures taken by everyone involved in these aggressions. This study is a qualitative based on semi-structured interviews. A total of 19 persons participates, being 13 students and six professors, aging 20 to 48 years old. All professors stated witnessed the LGBT prejudice situations and every student related being assaulted, physically or psychologically. The study also stands the necessity of curricular changes concerning the professor formation, giving adequate mechanisms for these professionals to act aiming for the diversity within classes.
