The role of self-compassion in emotion regulation
Revisão de literatura
Abstract
Self-compassion is related to a friendly attitude of an individual towards himself, with a kind, empathetic and patient attitude, experiencing their suffering and embracing it, understanding the imperfect nature of the human condition. Based on this, there is a growing need to investigate the connection between self-compassion and mental health indicators, since low levels of self-compassion are generally associated with self-criticism, low self-esteem, self-demand and others. Thus, this article aimed to investigate the relationship between self-compassion and emotional regulation through a literature review gathering the main research and discussions about the subjects. The relevance of self-compassion and its components for emotional regulation is noticed as its practice leads to increased acceptance and reevaluation of feelings, emotions and behaviors judged as negative. However, the lack of research related to the topic is perceived, especially in Brazil, highlighting the need for new studies.
